We Regret Voting for President Tinubu – Northern Elders

Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the NEF's spokesperson, expressed this idea in an interview with the Guardian by emphasizing a thoughtful approach to the region's election decision. Northern voters overwhelmingly supported President Tinubu, who campaigned under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC), surpassing his opponents in the number of votes received. Suleiman highlights the necessity for a more cohesive and consensus-driven process for choosing candidates for the country's top post, although the NEF now criticizes this choice. The NEF's analysis coincides with findings about Peter Obi, the Labour Party's nominee for president in the 2023 elections, and his activities in the north. Discussions concerning the attributes sought in national leadership have been sparked by Obi's recent visits and charitable deeds to northern towns. Suleiman said that voters in the north would be more inclined to support a candidate who was seen as more inclusive, less divisive, and appealing to a wider range of people in the country. He declared, "It is unlikely that the North will make the same mistake again by electing Bola Tinubu to the presidency in 2023."They will make an effort to choose a candidate who can bring Nigerians together and rule in their best interests, having learned from their previous mistake. "The North will exercise greater caution in the future when choosing a presidential candidate. Someone who is viewed as more inclusive, less divisive, and more in line with the interests of all parts of the nation will be given priority. "They have learned the value of cooperation and consensus when choosing a candidate for the nation's highest office after making the mistake of endorsing Tinubu in 2023."
