Attack on Israel by Iran: "If this is all that Iran is Capable of Doing, Then Israel Will Consider This to be Another Win," an Analyst Says

Israel's military reported that approximately 200 missiles were launched into its territory from Iran. The armed forces indicated that there were minimal injuries resulting from the attack. However, Iranian state television asserted that 90% of the missiles successfully struck their intended targets. According to Sky's defense analyst, Professor Michael Clarke, the Iranian forces likely aimed to overwhelm Israel's effective defense systems, including the Iron Dome, particularly in certain areas during their assault. Following the missile strikes on Tuesday night, Israel's airspace was temporarily closed but has since been reopened. Professor Clarke noted that the imagery broadcasted suggested a significant confrontation between missile and counter-missile systems over Jerusalem and other urban centers. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) appear to be promoting the narrative that this incident is an isolated event that has been effectively managed. Nevertheless, the analyst cautioned that the situation could change if Iran were to launch additional attacks. He remarked, "If I were in a position to make decisions in Iran, I would not limit myself to a single attack. We will have to observe their next moves." The recent missile assault, viewed as a response to Israel's operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, represents a notable escalation in hostilities. Israel has pledged to impose consequences for the missile barrage, while Iran has indicated it will retaliate against any further provocations. Professor Clarke recalled that during a previous attack on April 13, over 300 projectiles were launched at Israel from various locations, including Lebanon and southern Iraq, with most being intercepted. In contrast, he noted that the current missile strike appears to have originated solely from Iran, suggesting that this may represent the extent of their capabilities at this time. "If this is indeed the limit of their capabilities, Israel will likely regard this as yet another victory, further diminishing Tehran's standing."
