Barr. Julius Abure is Reaffirmed by The Benin Court of Appeal as The National Chairman of The Labour Party.
The Court of Appeal located in Benin has affirmed Barrister Julius Abure as the legitimate National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).
This ruling comes in the wake of a protracted internal dispute regarding the party's leadership, which has led to multiple legal challenges concerning the chairmanship.
The judgment was rendered on October 5th by a panel consisting of three justices: Justice Theresa Ngolika Orji Abadua, Justice Fatima Omoro Akinbami, and Justice Sybil O. Nwaka-Gbagi. Their unanimous ruling rejected the appeal filed by Mr. Lucky Shaibu, who had previously contested Abure’s leadership.
The court determined that an individual does not possess the authority to suspend the national chairman as per the Labour Party’s constitution and the 2022 Electoral Act. Furthermore, the court dismissed all objections to Abure’s leadership, thereby reinforcing his position as the rightful national leader of the party.
This decision is expected to resolve the ongoing leadership turmoil that has plagued the Labour Party in recent months.
