BREAKING NEWS: Wike Gives Owners of Uncompleted Buildings and Underdeveloped Lots in the FCT Three Months to Develop or Lose Them.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a three-month ultimatum to property owners to commence development on their unfinished buildings and vacant lots within the Federal Capital City (FCC), failing which they risk losing their properties. The FCTA indicated that this measure was necessitated by the rapid proliferation of informal settlements and the occupation of incomplete structures and unutilized land throughout the FCC. This announcement was detailed in a document dated October 21, 2024, signed by Chief Felix Obuah, the Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), and was made public on a Monday in Abuja. The document states: “The FCT Administration has expressed concern regarding the swift rise of shantytowns and squatters within incomplete buildings and undeveloped plots across the Federal Capital City. “The Administration has also observed that these properties are being utilized as hideouts by individuals of dubious character, thereby creating a significant security risk for the residents. “In light of these issues, all owners of abandoned and incomplete buildings and undeveloped plots are hereby instructed to promptly develop and secure their properties within three months from the date of this announcement.
