The APGA Frowns Plans to Take Disciplinary Action After a Legislator Assaults an Abuja Bolt Driver

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) issued a condemnation on Monday regarding the purported assault by Alex Ikwechegh, the representative for Aba North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, against a Bolt driver, an incident that has gained significant attention on social media. In a widely circulated video, the Honourable Member appears to be involved in an altercation with a Bolt driver who had arrived at his residence in Maitama, Abuja, to deliver an item. APGA, the political party under which Hon. Ikwechegh was elected to serve the Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency in Abia State, expressed disapproval of the lawmaker's conduct, stating that it is inconsistent with the party's constitution and values. The party's response was articulated in a press release issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, on Monday. The statement included, “Our esteemed party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, has been alerted to a viral video depicting an alleged assault on a citizen by Honourable Alex Ikwechegh, who represents the Aba North and South Federal Constituency. “As a political organization committed to the respect of human rights, we unequivocally denounce the actions of our member and Federal Parliamentarian, Alex Ikwechegh, in this instance. “Our party is built on the fundamental principles of honoring the dignity of every individual, regardless of their social status, beliefs, or ethnicity. The recent footage allegedly showing Ikwechegh's assault on a taxi driver is entirely unacceptable and contradicts the core values of APGA. “In accordance with the constitution of APGA, the party leadership will establish a disciplinary committee to investigate this matter, and should the findings warrant it, appropriate sanctions will be imposed in line with APGA's constitutional provisions.” Opara stated that all members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), as well as all elected officials representing the party, are required to uphold the utmost standards of decorum, civility, and integrity in both public and private interactions. “Our party will not accept any demonstrable behavior that contradicts the principles established by our founding fathers. In APGA, we are committed to supporting one another, and this principle must remain unchanged,” the statement emphasized.
