Why, According to GM, Did Air Sierra Leone Return to Nigeria After 15 Years?
Fifteen years after ceasing operations, Air Sierra Leone, the national carrier of Sierra Leone, has reestablished its scheduled flight services between Lagos and Freetown, Nigeria.
The airline's return to Nigeria is facilitated through a collaboration with XEJet, a Nigerian airline.
During a press conference held on the occasion of the inaugural flight ceremony on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Lagos airport, Edgard Lacle, General Manager of Air Sierra Leone, announced that the partnership with XEJet includes technical support and the provision of three operational aircraft to facilitate the airline's return to Nigeria.
Lacle indicated that the airline has received authorization to operate flights to Nigeria three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—with plans to increase the frequency as passenger demand grows.
For the inaugural flight to Lagos, the airline transported 36 passengers into the country.
He remarked, “The connection between Sierra Leone and Nigeria is robust, particularly in terms of trade, and we recognize the market potential that exists.”
He further noted, “Trade is significant, tourism plays a role, and the link between Sierra Leone and Nigeria is vital. This partnership is primarily technical, with XEJet providing suitable aircraft for passenger transport. We will adapt our operations in response to market changes.”
Iza Emmanuel, Chief Executive Officer of XEJet, also addressed the audience, stating:
“After more than 15 years, the Sierra Leonean flag is once again flying in the skies. To our esteemed guests from Sierra Leone and Nigeria, your presence today underscores the enduring friendship and cooperation between our nations. It reflects our shared vision for growth, connectivity, and opportunities for our citizens. We are privileged to celebrate this significant milestone with you.”
How Two Nigerians Were Apprehended for Allegedly Robbing a Kuwaiti Exchange Office
Two unidentified Nigerian nationals have been apprehended by the Kuwait General Department of Criminal Investigation in the Ahmadi Governorate on allegations of participating in an armed robbery.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior, as reported by Arab Times Online, the suspects were arrested within 24 hours following a robbery at an exchange office located in Mahboula, a district in southern Kuwait City.
A 35-second video of the incident, which was viewed by PUNCH Metro on the Arab Times Online platform, depicts one of the suspects, dressed in a hooded sweatshirt, exiting a white vehicle before entering the exchange office.
Upon entry, the same individual is seen in a brief, inaudible video brandishing what appeared to be a firearm at the staff of the exchange office, as noted by our correspondent.
The suspects are alleged to have stolen foreign currencies amounting to 4,600 Kuwaiti Dinars, approximately valued at $14,918.69, based on the conversion rate from currencyconvertonline.com.
The report stated, “Investigations revealed that the gang had meticulously orchestrated the crime, surveilling the exchange offices from adjacent rooftops to determine peak customer times.
“They also utilized stolen license plates to obscure the identities of the vehicles involved in the heist.”
One of the suspects, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly admitted after his arrest in Mahboula that he had scouted the location and informed his accomplice, whose name was also withheld, when the office was devoid of customers.
“The second suspect was captured in the Al-Qurain Market, and the stolen funds, along with a small bag containing the narcotic substance known as ‘crystal meth,’ were recovered from his residence.
“The Ministry of Interior has confirmed that both suspects and the confiscated items have been forwarded to the public prosecution for further legal proceedings,” the report indicated.
PUNCH Metro recalls that in 2019, several Nigerians were recorded on video executing an armed robbery in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
A Nigerian woman involved in drug trafficking, along with three accomplices—two from Pakistan and one from Yemen—was executed for drug-related crimes during the same timeframe.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the current Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission and a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on Diaspora Matters, remarked in an interview with journalists in Abuja that this woman marked the eighth individual to face execution for drug offences in the oil-rich kingdom over the last three years.
On April 12, Gabon Will Hold its Presidential Election.
Gabon’s transitional government announced on Thursday that presidential elections are scheduled for April 12, marking a significant move towards restoring civilian governance following a coup that ended the Bongo family's long-standing rule.
Government spokesman Seraphin Akure Davain stated that voting will commence at 7:00 am and conclude at 6:00 pm, in accordance with existing laws, following a cabinet meeting.
The oil-rich nation in Central Africa, which experienced 55 years of Bongo family leadership, adopted a new constitution during a referendum held in November. This constitution limits presidential terms to a maximum of two seven-year periods, eliminates the position of prime minister, and prohibits dynastic succession.
Recently, a new law was enacted permitting military officials to participate in elections, subject to specific conditions.
Transitional President General Brice Oligui Nguema, who assumed leadership following the August 2023 coup, has openly expressed his desire to maintain his position of power.
Ali Bongo governed for 14 years until he was ousted shortly after being declared the winner of a presidential election that both the military and opposition deemed fraudulent. He succeeded his father, Omar Bongo, who had been in power for over 41 years.
Both the opposition and the military coup leaders have accused Ali Bongo’s administration of extensive corruption and ineffective governance.
Trump Order Releases of Police Officers Who Were Imprisoned for Kill..i..ng a Black Man in Washington.
US President Donald Trump granted pardons on Wednesday to two police officers in Washington who had been convicted in the 2020 murder of Karon Hylton-Brown, a 20-year-old Black man, as reported by the White House.
In September 2024, Terence Sutton Jr. received a sentence of 66 months in prison, while Andrew Zabavsky was sentenced to 48 months for their roles in an unauthorized police chase that resulted in a fatal accident on October 23, 2020, in Northwest Washington, D.C. The Justice Department indicated that the officers remained at liberty while appealing their convictions.
The Metropolitan Police Department disclosed that Sutton, in his early 40s, and Zabavsky, in his mid-50s, were on “indefinite suspension without pay, pending our administrative process.” Sutton was convicted in late 2022 by a unanimous federal jury after a nine-week trial, facing charges of second-degree murder, conspiracy to obstruct justice, and obstruction of justice.
Zabavsky was convicted of conspiracy to obstruct justice and obstruction of justice.
The jury concluded that Sutton’s reckless driving during the police pursuit directly led to Hylton-Brown’s death, demonstrating a “conscious disregard” for the potential danger. Furthermore, Sutton and Zabavsky were found to have conspired to conceal the circumstances of the crash from authorities.
The DC Police Union had advocated for pardons for both officers. Sutton’s attorney, Kellen Dwyer, expressed optimism that the D.C. Circuit would have overturned the conviction, but he welcomed Trump’s decision to resolve the case. Zabavsky’s attorney, Christopher Zampogna, also expressed gratitude to the president.
Karen Hylton, the mother of Hylton-Brown, conveyed her shock and grief upon learning of the possible pardons.
The incident took place several months after the death of George Floyd, an event that ignited worldwide demonstrations against police violence and racial inequality. Trump's decision to pardon Sutton and Zabavsky comes on the heels of a contentious action earlier this week, in which he granted clemency to approximately 1,500 individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection, including some who had assaulted law enforcement officers.
The Fraternal Order of Police, the largest police union in the United States and a supporter of Trump in the upcoming 2024 election, along with the International Association of Chiefs of Police, released a joint statement conveying their profound disappointment regarding the pardons.
"End this Pointless Conflict or Else...?" Trump Makes Strong Statement Against Russia
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he would impose additional tariffs as part of his sanctions strategy against Russia if the nation fails to reach an agreement to conclude its conflict in Ukraine. He indicated that these tariffs could also extend to "other participating countries."
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump clarified his remarks from Tuesday, in which he suggested that sanctions against Russia would likely be enacted if President Vladimir Putin did not engage in negotiations to resolve the nearly three-year-long war.
“If we do not reach a ‘deal’ soon, I will have no alternative but to impose significant Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions on all goods sold by Russia to the United States and various other participating nations,” Trump stated.
His post did not specify which countries he considered to be participants in the conflict or how he defined their involvement.
The administration of former President Joe Biden has imposed extensive sanctions on thousands of entities across various sectors in Russia, including banking, defense, manufacturing, energy, and technology, following Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, which has resulted in significant loss of life and widespread destruction.
Dmitry Polyanskiy, Russia’s deputy U.N. Ambassador, remarked that Moscow would need to understand what Trump envisions as a “deal” to end the war in Ukraine.
“It is not simply a matter of ending the war,” Polyanskiy told Reuters. “The primary concern is addressing the underlying causes of the Ukrainian crisis.”
In the lead-up to his election victory on November 5, Trump repeatedly asserted that he would secure a deal between Ukraine and Russia on his first day in office, if not sooner. However, his advisors have acknowledged that achieving such a deal could take months or even longer.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Treasury implemented its most stringent sanctions yet on Russia’s energy sector, targeting oil and gas companies Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegas, along with 183 vessels associated with the so-called dark fleet of tankers designed to circumvent other Western trade restrictions.
SANCTION AND TARIFF THREATS
Trump has attempted to leverage the potential imposition of tariffs to pursue objectives beyond trade, specifically by threatening Mexico, Canada, and China with duties in an effort to compel them to address illegal immigration and the influx of the dangerous opioid fentanyl into the United States.
These three nations represent the largest trading partners of the U.S., collectively accounting for over $2.1 trillion in annual bilateral trade.
In contrast, Russia ranks much lower on this list, with U.S. imports from Russia plummeting to $2.9 billion during the first eleven months of 2024, a significant decrease from $29.6 billion in 2021.
The U.S. imported $13.5 billion in Russian petroleum products in 2014; however, this figure has dropped to zero due to sanctions related to the conflict in Ukraine. Other major import categories from a decade ago, such as semi-finished steel and pig iron, have also seen their imports cease entirely.
Nevertheless, the U.S. continues to import considerable quantities of Russian fertilizers for agricultural use, amounting to approximately $1.4 billion in 2023, along with over $1 billion each in uranium for nuclear energy and palladium and rhodium for automotive catalytic converters.
Tim Brightbill, a trade attorney at the Wiley Rein law firm in Washington, suggested that one effective strategy to impact Russia significantly would be to impose sanctions and halt the use of Russian timber in finished wood products imported from countries like China and Vietnam.
Regarding other international actors, the Biden administration has enacted sanctions against entities in North Korea and Iran for supplying weapons to Russia, as well as against Chinese firms providing components and other materials that support Russia's military efforts.
Trump remarked that he intended to do Russia, whose economy is struggling, and President Putin a significant favor by urging them to settle and end what he termed a "ridiculous war."
The negotiating stances of the conflicting parties remain markedly divergent, and some Ukrainians express concern that they may be compelled to make substantial concessions following three years of intense warfare.
The conflict has evolved into a war of attrition, primarily concentrated along the front lines in eastern Ukraine, resulting in substantial casualties on both sides.
Nigerian Persecution is Fueled by Three Elements
Nigeria (MNN) — The escalating oppression in Nigeria has led to its designation as the most perilous country for Christians in the Global Christian Relief Red List this year.
What are the underlying causes of this violence? Greg Kelley from Unknown Nations identifies three key factors.
Firstly, Kelley notes, “The Nigerian government remains silent and fails to hold individuals accountable.”
This governmental indifference also affects international relations. Between 2022 and 2024, nearly 10,000 Christians lost their lives in Nigeria, yet the U.S. State Department did not classify Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern in its most recent assessment.
Kelley remarks, “Being included on such lists carries a stigma.”
“This can deter foreign investment, and in a struggling economy like Nigeria’s, that can be nearly catastrophic.”
The absence of consequences contributes to a second aspect of persecution: its escalating severity.
“Individuals are beheaded, slaughtered; homes are set ablaze. The violence is extraordinarily brutal,” Kelley states.
Finally, he highlights, “A significant challenge is the indifference of the church in southern Nigeria as they witness the devastation occurring in the north.”
Pray for relief as Gospel workers from northern Nigeria convene at a retreat center this week.
“Leaders will come together to find renewal and strength for their personal growth in Christ,” Kelley explains.
Additionally, pray that these leaders acquire the necessary resources to advance the Gospel. Collaborate with Unknown Nations to assist in delivering God’s Word to the areas that require it most.
“They (Nigerians) are in dire need of the Word of God. That’s why we distribute our solar-powered audio Bible,” Kelley emphasizes.

EFCC Recounts How a "Yahoo Boy" Killed Our Operative During the Anambra Raid.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) mourns the tragic loss of one of its officers, Assistant Superintendent ASE II Aminu Sahabi Salisu, who was brutally killed while performing his official duties on January 17, 2025, by a suspected internet fraudster, Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu.
Furthermore, the Commission is deeply troubled by the irresponsible, heartless, and inhumane narratives circulating on social media regarding the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. It is reprehensible to trivialize the death of a dedicated officer engaged in patriotic service by reducing it to sensationalism on social media.
It is particularly concerning that some anonymous commentators are siding with an alleged criminal who has inflicted harm on EFCC officers while they were executing their duties. There is no rationale that can justify such a heinous act. Basic human decency requires that the grieving family, the Commission, and the nation be spared from the unfounded rumors and speculations surrounding the death of the fallen officer.
On the morning of January 17, Salisu and other EFCC investigators were at Dr. J.O. Ukwutinife Close, Ifite, Awka, Anambra State, to apprehend several suspected internet fraudsters. This operation was properly documented at both the Anambra State Command Headquarters and the Area Command of the Nigeria Police, in accordance with established operational protocols.
Initially, the operation proceeded without incident, resulting in the arrest of 37 suspected internet fraudsters at a two-storey building where Ikechukwu and other individuals resided.
However, upon noticing the investigators through a CCTV camera installed at his door, Ikechukwu, who acknowledged seeing them, refused to open his door despite their polite requests for entry. In defiance of their presence and identification, he opened fire on the officers, resulting in the death of Salisu and injuring another officer who was tasked with searching his apartment.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Ikechukwu was engaged in the coding and distribution of online medical supplies of questionable legitimacy. Authorities recovered two laptops, iPads, and several recording devices from his residence, confirming his involvement in internet fraud. Currently in police custody due to the violent nature of his case, the Commission is preparing to bring him to trial.
The EFCC wishes to inform the public that the activities of internet fraudsters pose a significant threat to public safety and security. Intelligence reports indicate that these criminals are armed and involved in serious offenses such as kidnapping, banditry, ritual killings, and other violent crimes. The public should remain vigilant and not be misled into thinking these individuals are merely "Yahoo boys and girls."
The EFCC asserts that any future attacks on its officers will be met with stringent legal action. The Commission is committed to ensuring that no officer is subjected to violence without consequence. As a respected law enforcement agency, the EFCC is determined to eradicate internet fraud and other forms of corruption from the nation.
In mourning the loss of its officer who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the country, the Commission expresses its gratitude for the invaluable support, condolences, and swift responses from sister agencies and concerned individuals who stand in solidarity during this challenging period.

The Catholic Church Punishes the Priest for the Covert Wedding.
Rev. Fr. Daniel Okanatotor Oghenerukevwe has been suspended by the Catholic Diocese of Warri, located in Delta State, due to allegations of conducting a secret wedding in the United States.
This information was disclosed in a statement titled ‘Decree of Suspension’, dated Thursday, January 16, 2025.
The statement, co-signed by the Bishop of Warri, Rt. Rev. Anthony Ovayero Ewherido, and the Chancellor/Notary, Very Rev. Fr. Clement Abobo, asserted that “Fr. Oghenerukevwe entered into marriage with Ms. Dora Chichah on December 29, 2024, at the Streams of Joy Church in Dallas, USA.”
The Diocese indicated that Fr. Oghenerukevwe had submitted a request on November 30, 2024, to be released from all canonical obligations related to Holy Orders.
However, the Diocese noted that they had contacted him, “requesting the necessary documents to initiate the process, but the priest proceeded to marry without fulfilling the required procedures.
“Consequently, Rev. Fr. Daniel Okanatotor Oghenerukevwe has incurred a Latae Sententiae suspension in accordance with Canon 1394 S1, and I, Most Rev. Anthony Ovayero Ewherido, Bishop of Warri, hereby officially declare that he is suspended from the exercise of sacred ministry.”
“As a result, he is forbidden from presenting himself as a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Warri in any capacity. All canonical consequences associated with this suspension will take effect immediately (cf. Can. 1333),” the statement partially read.
Trump Intends to Issue 100 Executive Orders in the First Few Hours After Taking Office.
Donald Trump is set to be inaugurated for a momentous second term as President of the United States on Monday, pledging to usher in a new "golden age" for the nation while the world anticipates the return of his unpredictable governance.
Due to frigid temperatures, the 78-year-old's inauguration will take place indoors at the U.S. Capitol, yet the initial moments of this remarkable political resurgence will be filled with vigorous activity.
The Republican leader has committed to swiftly issuing a series of executive orders aimed at dismantling Joe Biden's legacy upon his re-entry into the White House, alongside initiating immediate deportations of undocumented immigrants.
While Trump depicted a grim scenario of "American carnage" during his first inauguration in 2017, he now presents a more optimistic vision of a "brand new day" for the United States.
"I will act with unprecedented speed and strength to address every crisis confronting our nation," Trump declared at a large rally the night before the inauguration, where he also engaged in a dance with the Village People band.
However, the billionaire populist has also revisited some of the darker themes that contributed to his electoral success over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in November.
The incoming 47th President of the United States has vowed to "halt the invasion of our borders" and to overturn "woke" policies, including what he terms "transgender insanity" in American schools.
In making history, Trump will become the oldest individual to be sworn in as president, and he is only the second president in U.S. history to reclaim the office after being ousted, following Grover Cleveland in 1893.
Prior to the inauguration, President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will extend an invitation to Trump and his wife Melania for "tea and coffee" at the White House, after which they will all proceed together to the Capitol.
This gesture of civility will stand in stark contrast to the events of 2021, when Trump—who incited a crowd that stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn his electoral defeat—declined to attend Biden's inauguration.
Trump's buoyant demeanor remains undeterred by the necessity to relocate the swearing-in ceremony from the steps of the Capitol, a decision prompted by forecasts predicting the coldest Inauguration Day in four decades.
Rather than taking the oath before a large audience on the National Mall, Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance will instead do so within the Capitol's domed Rotunda, reminiscent of Ronald Reagan's inauguration in 1985.
“As soon as President Trump places his hand on the Bible and swears the Oath to the United States Constitution, the Golden Age of America will begin,” stated spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt on X.
However, numerous Americans remain apprehensive about Trump's more ominous pledges, particularly his promises of retribution against political adversaries and journalists.
Trump's return to the Oval Office marks a moment of unprecedented power, culminating a journey that included surviving two assassination attempts and a criminal conviction to secure the election.
Once regarded as a political outsider, Trump has now become emblematic of the new standard in U.S. politics.
Three of the wealthiest individuals globally—tech magnates Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos—will join Trump for the inauguration.
Musk, who oversees Tesla, SpaceX, and X, has committed to spearheading a cost-reduction initiative in the new administration and assured attendees at a recent rally that he would work to make America strong “for centuries.”
Expressing his satisfaction, Trump—who remarked during the campaign that he would assume a dictatorial role on “day one”—has pledged to enact approximately 100 executive orders shortly after taking office.
These orders will include declaring a national emergency concerning the southern U.S. border with Mexico and reversing the Biden administration's policies on diversity and oil drilling.
Trump also indicated that his supporters would be “very happy” with a decision to pardon those involved in the January 6 riots.
For the international community, Trump's resurgence signals a period of unpredictability.
With promises of extensive tariffs, territorial threats toward Greenland and Panama, and questioning U.S. aid to Ukraine, Trump appears poised to once again disrupt the global order.
His triumph has also strengthened the resolve of right-wing politicians globally. Italy's far-right Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is poised to participate in the inauguration, despite the usual absence of foreign leaders at such events.
Sister Explains the Reason Behind Her Catholic Priest Brother's Marriage.
Rev. Fr. Daniel Okanatotor Oghenerukevwe, previously affiliated with the Catholic Church of the Warri Diocese, has abandoned his vows of celibacy and renounced his priestly vocation to marry in Dallas, Texas, as reported on Sunday evening.
The priest wed Dora Chichah at the Stream of Joy Church in Dallas on December 29, 2024, without awaiting the formal release from his canonical duties by the Church.
As a result, ecclesiastical authorities have suspended him from his priestly functions, declaring, “By this action, Rev. Fr. Daniel Okanatotor Oghenerukevwe has incurred a Latae Sententiae suspension in accordance with the provisions of Canon 1394 S1.”
This suspension was detailed in a statement titled ‘Decree of Suspension,’ dated January 16, 2025, and co-signed by the Bishop of Warri, Rt. Rev. Anthony Ewherido, and the Chancellor/Notary, Very Rev. Fr. Clement Abobo. The statement alleged that “Fr. Oghenerukevwe entered into marriage with Ms. Dora Chichah on December 29, 2024, at the Streams of Joy Church in Dallas, USA.”
Further information surfaced on Sunday evening regarding the reasons behind the suspended priest's decision to abandon his celibacy vows and marry his partner in Dallas.
Mary Okanatotor, who identified herself as the biological sister of the suspended priest, asserted that “it was the best decision” for her brother.
In a social media comment addressing the reports of her brother (Fr. Oghenerukevwe) marrying his partner in secrecy in America, Mary attributed his choice to feelings of “loneliness.”
She revealed that Oghenerukevwe had been grappling with mental health challenges for an extended period and found it difficult to cope with the “loneliness” associated with his priestly life.
Mary further noted that the family was not physically present to provide support during the priest's challenging times.
She expressed her gratitude, stating, “I appreciate all the comments. The priest in question is my brother, and this decision was the best for him, as he has struggled with mental health issues for an extended period and has been unable to cope with feelings of isolation.
“As his family, we are unable to provide him with physical support. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement.
“This is a challenging time for our family, but it is said that he who finds a wife finds a good thing.
“Furthermore, he did not enter into a secret marriage; he communicated his decision to the diocese.
“Once again, thank you. To the sponsor of this post, may God bless you and reward you accordingly.”
It has been reported that Oghenerukevwe, originally from one of the communities in Ewu Kingdom, Delta State, was ordained as a Catholic priest on June 21, 2008, within the Catholic Diocese of Warri.
Due to an Aggressive Revenue Campaign, we Collected Over 40 Billion in FCT in December, Says Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the FCT generated over N40 billion in December 2024, a result of his proactive revenue enhancement initiatives.
Wike noted that since he took office in August 2023, the FCT has experienced a significant increase in revenue generation, rising from approximately N10 billion per month to an average of N25 billion.
In a media briefing on Sunday evening, Wike credited this revenue growth to the collection of ground rents and the payment of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) by land allottees.
He stated:
“We do not receive up to N13 billion from VAT and the 1% allocation from the Federal Government. Therefore, we must supplement our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to meet salary obligations due to the new wage structure.”
“When I assumed office, we were generating around N9 billion to N10 billion. Today, by the grace of God, our monthly revenue is not less than N25 billion.”
“This achievement is due to our vigorous revenue initiatives. In fact, last month, we managed to generate over N40 billion. Such aggressive revenue efforts are essential for infrastructure development.”
“It is imperative that this revenue comes from taxes, and without tax compliance, how can we achieve development?” he questioned.
“Can you, in good conscience, assert that the FCT is justifying the revenue or taxes you are contributing? Yes, it is true that we can enhance our tax collection, but it remains insufficient.”

The PDP Acknowledges the Fubara Faction as Genuine Executives and Accepts the Verdict.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially acknowledged Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor’s faction as the rightful state executives of the party in Rivers State.
This announcement was made in a statement released on Thursday, following the party's acceptance of the Rivers State High Court's ruling that invalidated its Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses conducted on July 27, August 10, and August 31, 2024.
In the statement, which was signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party indicated that Ewor’s faction, which is aligned with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has now been recognized by the National Working Committee.
This development occurs amidst an ongoing dispute between Fubara and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, regarding the control of the party's structure in Rivers.
Attempts to reconcile Wike, Fubara, and their respective supporters were unsuccessful throughout the previous year, as Wike’s faction triumphed in the congresses, while Fubara’s supporters withdrew, citing court injunctions.
However, on January 13, 2025, the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt issued an interlocutory injunction preventing the executives led by State Chairman Aaron Chukwuemeka, who is aligned with Wike, from acting as the party's leadership in the state.
The ruling, delivered by Justice Stephen Jumbo, dissolved the congress-elected executives and recognized the faction led by Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor as the legitimate leaders of the party.
In response to this development, the National Working Committee expressed its approval of the court's decision, stating that the judgment reinforces the party's commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and strict adherence to the rule of law.
The statement partially states, “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) acknowledges the receipt of the judgment and has duly considered it, thereby accepting the ruling of the Rivers State High Court in Suit No. PHC/2301/CS/2024, which invalidated the Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses of our Party held on July 27, August 10, and August 31, 2024, respectively.
“Accordingly, in compliance with the Court's judgment delivered on Monday, January 13, 2025, the NWC endorses the leadership of Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor to oversee the operations of the PDP Rivers State Chapter, in alignment with the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).”
The PDP leadership urged stakeholders, members, and supporters within Rivers State to collaborate with the Ewor-led executive to promote the unity, stability, and development of the party in the region.
Speaker Abbas, Governors Uzodimma and Diri, and 565 Others Lose Their Land Holdings in Abuja as Wike Issues a New Revocation.
The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, along with his counterpart from Bayelsa, Douye Diri, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, are among the 568 individuals and entities whose land holdings in Abuja have been revoked under the recent directives issued by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Additionally, the list includes Ibrahim Hadejia, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President); Ben Ayade, the former governor of Cross River State; Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele; Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro; Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment; John Eno, the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment; Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairperson/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM); the late Sports Minister Bala Kaoje; and Regina Akume, spouse of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume. Furthermore, Mr. Wike has also mandated the revocation of land from several current and former federal lawmakers, including Shehu Sani, Magnus Abe, David Umaru, Lanre Tejuoso, Oluwole Oke, Lynda Ikpeazu, Orker Jev, Agom Jarigbe, Nicholas Mutu, Gilbert Nnaji, Francis Onyewuchi, and Abubakar Fulata.
Two individuals, Nkoyo Onnoghen and Usang, who are relatives of former Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen, are also included in this list.
Among the companies and agencies that have lost their properties are Abuja Enterprise Agency, Silver Proof Nigeria Limited, Sali-Tech Commercial Limited, Gimag Integrated Services Limited, and Earth Conscience Limited.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) announced on Wednesday that 568 plots have been revoked due to the failure of the allottees to remit payment for their Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) by the deadline of January 15.
In its publication titled “Notice of Withdrawal of Rights of Occupancy in Maitama II, Abuja,” the FCTA stated that this action was taken in accordance with the provisions of the Land Use Act of 1978.
The FCTA further clarified, “The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) wishes to inform the allottee(s) of land in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja, who have not settled their Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) fees following the expiration of the grace period granted by the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, that their Right of Occupancy for the land/property has been revoked. This action is in line with Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, due to non-compliance with the terms of the grant, which required title/interest holders to pay all associated fees. It is important to note that allottees/title holders who have completed their payments by January 15, 2025, are not impacted by this announcement.”
Recent Revocations
This latest revocation follows a similar action taken approximately three weeks ago, when 762 plots were also withdrawn from their respective allottees. In December, it was reported by PREMIUM TIMES that notable individuals such as Messrs Onnoghen, Tajudeen, Ayade, and Akume had their plots ordered for revocation by the FCT Minister. Additionally, a foundation named after former President Muhammadu Buhari was included in this list.
Among those affected by the recent revocation are Wole Oke, Lynda Ikpeazu, Orker Jev, and Agom Jarigbe. The minister has also indicated the possibility of withdrawing the Rights of Occupancy from an additional 614 individuals.
These plots are situated in Maitama 1, a prestigious area within the nation’s capital. Earlier in October, Mr. Wike had warned that the plots of 3,273 allottees in the Maitama District could be revoked if payments were not made within a two-week timeframe.
In August, the minister declared the cancellation of the Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) for 165 plots.
Among those affected by this decision were Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 election; Liyel Imoke, a former governor of Cross River State; Udo Udoma, a former Minister of National Planning; Ufot Ekaette, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation; Victor Oyofo, a former senator from Edo North; and the late Sam Nda-Isaiah, publisher of the Leadership newspaper.
Additionally, the list included Niki Tobi, a former Supreme Court justice and Chairman of the 2005 National Conference; Kanu Agabi, a former Attorney General of the Federation; Chidinma, spouse of former Aviation Minister Osita Chidoka; and Paul Nwabiukwu, media aide to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General of the World Trade Organization.
Sanitisation
Upon taking office in August, Mr. Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, committed to reforming the land allocation process in Abuja.
“When we make the right decisions, some individuals will be pleased, while others will not. The affluent may oppose certain choices, but any action that benefits our people must be pursued,” he stated.
The minister also established the fee for acquiring a C-of-O at N5 million, allowing a four-month period for payment.
Anambra Assembly Starts-Up "Agunechemba," As a New Security Outfit
On Thursday, the Anambra State House of Assembly convened in plenary to deliberate on an executive Bill titled “Anambra State Homeland Security Bill.” This Bill, introduced during the session, established a new security agency named “Agunaechemba.” Following its introduction, the Bill was swiftly processed, undergoing first, second, and third readings before being enacted into law.
The legislation aimed at creating Agunaechemba and ensuring the maintenance of internal security and order within the State is set to take effect on January 17, 2025. Additionally, it has repealed the Anambra State Vigilante Law of 2015.
During a joint press conference with the Chairpersons and members of the House Committee on Media and Publicity and the Committee on Information, Hon. Ejike Okechukwu, Chairman of the Media Committee, described this legislation as one of the most significant laws passed by the Assembly. He noted that the law empowers the Presidents General of communities to submit regular security reports.
Key provisions of the law include the necessity for valid identification from guests at hotels throughout the state. Furthermore, it mandates landlords to maintain records of prospective tenants, as revealed by Hon. Okechukwu. The law also addresses issues related to unexplained wealth, as well as practices associated with money rituals, thereby discouraging the pursuit of quick financial gain. “Do not create public disturbances under the guise of religion,” Hon. Okechukwu cautioned.
In response, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, the Majority Leader, emphasized the community-oriented nature of the law, asserting the House's readiness for its implementation. “We are prepared, and all hands must be on deck,” stated Hon. Ikenna.
Hon. Tony Muobuike praised the law as robust and well-structured, highlighting its provisions requiring landlords and hoteliers to properly verify the identities of tenants and guests.
In response to inquiries from journalists regarding the protection of human rights, the safety of information providers, and the status of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), as well as the potential for demobilization and disarmament of the AVG, the committee presented a range of suggestions to address these issues.
Regarding human rights protection, Hon. Ejike emphasized that the law safeguards Agunechemba operatives while they are performing their duties, while also condemning any form of rights infringement. Concerning the safety of information providers, Hon. Ejike affirmed that these individuals are legally protected. This assertion was further supported by Hon. Patrick Okafor, who referenced the whistle-blower law, thereby reinforcing the notion that informants are shielded by legal provisions.
On the topic of managing AVG personnel and the possibility of disarmament, Hon. Okechukwu indicated that the Agunechemba unit is set to eventually succeed the AVG. In response, Hon. Ofodeme remarked that Agunechemba represents a more organized and reformed entity.
Approximately three weeks ago, Governor Soludo announced the initiation of “operation udo ga achi” as a measure to combat the ongoing insecurity plaguing the state. The security situation in Anambra continues to be critical, and outcomes from the newly established framework are anticipated in the forthcoming weeks.
JUST IN: Nigerian Police Suspend AIG Lafia Abduyari While Investigation Continues
There are reports suggesting that AIG Abduyari Shuaya’u Lafia has been suspended by the Nigerian Police.
As reported by Sahara Reporters, the suspension was officially approved by the police authority, effective January 9, 2025.
It has been noted that a wireless communication was sent to all departments, units, and commands, signed by the Force Secretary. The Force Headquarters emphasized the necessity for the officer to strictly comply with the regulations governing the conduct of police officers under suspension, pending the resolution of his case by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC).
The specific reasons for his suspension were not disclosed in the online news report.
In a communication titled “Suspension and Interdiction AP. NO. 41804 AIG Abduyari Shuaya’u Lafia,” the police authorities referenced the decision made by the Police Service Commission (POLSCOM), as conveyed in its letter dated January 9, 2025, in accordance with PSR 100406, 2021, as amended.
Additionally, the police authorities instructed the Assistant Inspector General of Police for Budget and Payment to take immediate action to halt his salary.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Khan and his Wife are Sentenced to Prison by a Court.
A Pakistani court on Friday found former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, guilty in a significant corruption case, sentencing Khan to 14 years in prison.
Khan has been in custody since August 2023 and faces approximately 200 charges. His political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, asserts that this latest conviction is an attempt to silence him.
Following the verdict, Khan stated to reporters in the courtroom, "I will neither make any deal nor seek any relief."
The anti-corruption court convened at the jail near Islamabad, where Khan is detained, and convicted both him and his wife concerning a welfare organization they founded, the Al-Qadir Trust.
Judge Nasir Rana declared, "The prosecution has proven its case. Khan is convicted," as he announced a 14-year sentence for Khan and a seven-year sentence for Bibi.
Khan contends that the charges are politically motivated, aimed at preventing his return to power.
The sentencing has faced multiple delays over the past month, with analysts suggesting that the prison term is being utilized to coerce Khan into negotiating a deal with the military to withdraw from politics.
Since his removal from office in 2022, Khan has initiated an unprecedented campaign, openly criticizing the influential military leaders of the country.
He has previously received four convictions, two of which were overturned, while the sentences in the other two cases were suspended. Nevertheless, he remains incarcerated due to ongoing legal matters.
Last year, a United Nations panel of experts concluded that Khan's detention lacked legal justification and seemed intended to disqualify him from seeking political office.
Khan was prohibited from participating in the elections scheduled for February, and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, faced significant restrictions due to a widespread crackdown.
Despite PTI securing more seats than any other party in the election, a coalition of parties deemed more amenable to military influence excluded them from power.
How Someone in Ogun Poisoned Cows that Were Grazing
Samuel Egbetokun, a 30-year-old individual, has been apprehended by officials from the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly poisoning cattle in the Alabata community within the Odeda Local Government Area of the state.
As reported by the command's spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, on Friday, the suspect is accused of mixing cassava with a substance believed to be rat poison and throwing it to the cows while they grazed on Thursday.
The cattle owner was unaware of the situation until two out of the three cows that ingested the cassava collapsed and subsequently died.
Odutola stated, “The incident was reported on January 16, 2025, when a 54-year-old man, Idris Lawal, from Akingbasa Village, approached the local police station.
“His cattle rearer, Boji Sanni, witnessed a man throwing cassava mixed with a substance suspected to be rat poison to his cattle while they were grazing on January 15, 2025.
“The rearer noted that before he realized the cassava was contaminated, some cows had already consumed it. As a result, two female cows perished, and a third is currently receiving treatment. The estimated value of the deceased cows is ₦1,500,000.”
“The Commissioner of Police has taken a keen interest in this case, particularly due to fears of possible retaliation from herders or cattle owners. He is cautioning others against such actions, asserting that this case will act as a deterrent.”
China's Population Continues to Decline Despite Efforts to Increase Birth Rates.
China announced on Friday that its population has decreased for the third consecutive year in 2024, marking a continuation of a downward trend following over sixty years of growth. This decline is attributed to a rapidly aging demographic and persistently low birth rates.
Once the most populous nation globally, China was surpassed by India in 2023. In response to the declining birth rates, the Chinese government is implementing measures such as subsidies and pro-fertility campaigns.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the population at the end of the year was recorded at 1.408 billion, a decrease from 1.410 billion in 2023.
The decline this year was less pronounced than in the previous year, which saw a drop more than double that of 2022, as per the data.
China abolished its stringent “one-child policy,” which was introduced in the 1980s due to concerns over overpopulation, in 2016, and permitted couples to have three children starting in 2021.
However, these measures have not succeeded in reversing the demographic downturn in a country that has historically depended on its large workforce to fuel economic growth.
Experts attribute the declining birth rates to the rising cost of living, alongside an increasing number of women entering the workforce and pursuing higher education.
The trend of population decline is expected to persist, influenced by bleak economic prospects for the youth and the ongoing challenges of gender discrimination in the labor market, as noted by Yun Zhou, a sociologist at the University of Michigan, in an interview with AFP.
By 2035, it is projected that individuals aged over 60 will constitute nearly one-third of China's population, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit.
Recent data revealed that the population aged 60 and above has surpassed 310.31 million, accounting for nearly a quarter of the total population, an increase from approximately 297 million in 2023.
Nevertheless, the data also indicated a slight uptick in China's birth rate, which remains among the lowest globally, rising to 6.77 births per 1,000 people from the previous year.
BREAKING: Abure is Upheld by the Appeal Court as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
A court of appeal convened in Abuja has reaffirmed Barrister Julius Abure as the legitimately elected National Chairman of the Labour Party, Nigeria, on Friday.
In its ruling, the appeal court also validated the National Convention of the Labour Party that took place on March 27, 2024, in Anambra State.
The Court of Appeal, under the presiding Honourable Justice Hamma Akawu Barka, based its decision on a prior judgment delivered on November 13, 2024, in Appeal Number CA/Abj/CV/1172/2024, involving the Labour Party (Appellant) against Chief Olusola Nehemiah Ebiseni and INEC (Respondents).
The Court concluded that the two appeals presented today—(1) Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and others v. Labour Party and others (CA/ABJ/CA/1217/2024) and (2) INEC v. Labour Party (CA/Abj/CV/1232/2024)—could not resolve the leadership issue of the Labour Party, as they arose from an incompetent suit, rendering the trial Court without jurisdiction to adjudicate on the matter, thus constituting a mere academic exercise.
Consequently, the Court instructed all parties involved in the appeals and the general public to uphold the judgment of the Court of Appeal delivered on November 13, 2024, which confirmed Barrister Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.

Since Our Policies Are Commendable, we do not Require Sanusi's Endorsement for Validation. - FG
The Federal Government has addressed Emir Sanusi regarding his recent remarks on President Tinubu’s endorsement.
The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, articulated that the government does not require the Emir’s endorsement for legitimacy, highlighting that the ongoing reforms are already producing substantial outcomes.
“The Federal Government acknowledges the recent comments made by His Highness, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, concerning the economic reforms initiated under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership during a public event in Lagos. We recognize the Emir’s acknowledgment of the commendable initiatives, which he stated he could rationalize but chose not to support the government.
“Firstly, we affirm that Sanusi, like any Nigerian, possesses the fundamental right to voice opinions, whether in praise or criticism of government operations. However, it is somewhat perplexing that a leader, particularly one from an institution that upholds integrity, fairness, and justice, would openly concede to withholding the truth due to personal interests tied to perceived opposition.
“It is crucial to emphasize that Nigeria stands at a critical crossroads where courageous and decisive measures are imperative to address deep-rooted economic issues. This administration has undertaken transformative reforms not for their simplicity, but because they are vital for ensuring Nigeria’s long-term stability and growth, a point consistently advocated by Emir Sanusi.
“The temporary hardships currently faced as a result of these unavoidable decisions, as acknowledged by Sanusi, are a necessary outcome of years of irresponsible economic governance.”
These reforms are already yielding tangible results. The harmonization of exchange rates has enhanced investor confidence, leading to an increase in foreign reserves and fortifying Nigeria’s capacity to protect itself against external economic disturbances. The elimination of the fuel subsidy has released substantial resources, enabling greater investment in vital sectors such as infrastructure, education, and healthcare. Forecasts from reputable organizations, including the World Bank, indicate a positive trend in Nigeria’s GDP, suggesting that our economy is on a solid path to recovery. Furthermore, by tackling inefficiencies, the nation has lowered its debt service-to-revenue ratio, establishing a more sustainable fiscal framework for future generations.
It is profoundly disheartening that reforms widely acknowledged as crucial by global experts—including Emir Sanusi II himself—are now being subtly criticized by him due to a shift in allegiance. His Highness, with his economic background, bears a unique responsibility to engage constructively rather than undermine initiatives aimed at collective advancement simply because he feels distanced from his “friends” in government.
We call upon the Emir to transcend personal interests and partisan biases, prioritizing the broader welfare of Nigerians.
Rebuilding Nigeria necessitates unity, focus, and sacrifice from all stakeholders. As a government, we implore esteemed leaders to avoid rhetoric that erodes public trust. Instead, they have a duty to advocate for the shared objective of a prosperous Nigeria. This is a pivotal moment for our country; what is required is collaboration, not unwarranted distractions.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration is committed to guiding Nigeria towards economic inclusivity, sustainability, and shared prosperity. The obstacles we encounter require bravery and a united approach, rather than divisive rhetoric. This administration welcomes constructive discussions with all sincere stakeholders, while firmly prioritizing the welfare of Nigerians above all considerations.
"Let this moment be remembered as a pivotal juncture—when both leaders and citizens decide to place the nation's future above individual interests. Together, we will fulfill the promise of renewed hope and a brighter Nigeria for everyone," the statement asserts.
How Dogs in Italy Killed a 27-Year-Old Nigerian Mother
A 27-year-old Nigerian mother, named Patricia Masithela, tragically lost her life following an attack by a pack of starving dogs in Latina, Italy.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred on Monday night while Masithela was visiting a male acquaintance at his abandoned villa in the Lazio region.
Having recently relocated to Lazio from Nigeria, Patricia arrived at the residence unaware that her friend was not present.
Her screams drew the attention of nearby residents, who discovered her critically injured and lying in a pool of her own blood, with multiple deep wounds across her body.
The police intervened by shooting two of the dogs to facilitate access for emergency responders.
Emergency medical personnel provided immediate care and transported Patricia, a mother of a five-year-old girl, to Santa Maria Goretti Hospital. Unfortunately, she passed away due to significant blood loss.
Despite the medical team's efforts, she could not survive the severe injuries and extensive blood loss.
Local authorities have announced that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
How the Verifiable Farmers' Register Will be Established Stated FG
The Federal Government has unveiled its intention to create a verifiable database of authentic farmers throughout Nigeria.
In a statement released on Thursday, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, announced that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security will collaborate with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to establish a comprehensive register of farmers.
This initiative aims to facilitate the delivery of agricultural interventions directly to legitimate farmers in the country.
Kyari indicated that the initial phase of the project will focus on registering two million farmers within the next three months.
Following this, the registration process will expand to encompass six million farmers in the second phase, with the ultimate objective of including all farmers across the nation.
He noted, “Many Federal Government interventions fail to reach authentic farmers and agro-dealers due to the lack of a verifiable database of farmers nationwide.”
Kyari further explained, “The agreement we have signed with the National Identity Management Commission pertains to the creation of a farmers’ register.”
The register will utilize the platform provided by NIMC, specifically the National Identification Number (NIN) and the National Identity Card, which will contain comprehensive biometric data of individual farmers.
In addition to personal information, the register will also capture essential details such as the location of farmland, types of crops cultivated, soil characteristics, and farming practices, including the use of irrigation or rain-fed systems.
Kyari stressed, “This register will ensure that interventions and support are directed towards genuine farmers.”
The minister also highlighted that this initiative aims to tackle issues related to “portfolio farmers and ghost farmers,” ensuring that government resources are allocated to those who genuinely need assistance.
According to Apostle Suleman, Nigerians Deserve What we are Going Through.
Apostle Johnson Suleman, the Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries, has criticized Nigerians, attributing the nation's hardships to poor decisions made during the 2023 elections.
According to Trustbase News, the cleric made these remarks in Bauchi State during a two-day event titled “Recovery Conference 2025.”
During his visit to the Government House in Bauchi, Apostle Suleman met with the Executive Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, accompanied by a group of senior pastors, including Dr. Kingsley Aigbe. He praised the Governor for his leadership qualities and hospitality, referring to him as a man of integrity.
Apostle Suleman assured the Governor of his ongoing prayers for the leadership and citizens of Bauchi State.
However, in an interview with journalists at the Government House, he expressed his discontent with the voting decisions of Nigerians.
“What Nigerians are experiencing is, in part, a consequence of their own choices. Prior to the election, we raised our voices in warning,” he stated.
He criticized President Bola Tinubu, asserting that his leadership lacked a clear manifesto and was characterized by a sense of entitlement encapsulated in the phrase, “it’s my turn.”
He expressed concern over the current state of the nation under Tinubu’s administration, highlighting issues related to policy decisions and the severe mismanagement of the oil sector.
“The oil sector has been exploited. I fear that in the next 10 to 15 years, Nigerians may not recover from the repercussions. For now, our only recourse is prayer,” he remarked.
He urged Nigerians to reconsider their choices as they approach the 2027 elections, cautioning, “If they have endured enough by that time, they may make wiser decisions.”
Additionally, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State cautioned that the policies being enacted by President Bola Tinubu, if left unaddressed, could jeopardize the nation's future.
The Governor clarified that his criticisms of the Federal Government's policies were not driven by personal animosity towards President Tinubu.
Tinubu's policies lack a coherent vision and are leading us towards ruin and devastation.
"This is why I discuss tax reforms—not out of opposition to reform itself, but because I seek reforms that will have a significant national impact. I hold no personal grievances against the president, only respect," he stated.
Mohammed emphasized that he would persist in highlighting the deficiencies of President Tinubu as long as Nigerians continue to be disadvantaged by his policies and initiatives.
BREAKING: Speaker of Lagos State Obasa is Being Arrested for Alleged ₦43.5 Billion Fraud.
The recently impeached former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, is set to undergo intensified examination by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding allegations of misappropriating ₦43.5 billion in state funds.
Sources within the anti-corruption agency informed Peoples Gazette that Obasa, who was removed from his position on Monday following an investigative report that revealed excessive expenditures on luxury backup vehicles, is anticipated to be arrested upon his return to Nigeria from the United States.
An EFCC official, who requested anonymity, stated, “The evidence against him is substantial. This time, there is no way out. The case has been meticulously prepared, and we are ready to move forward.”
Obasa, who previously faced an EFCC investigation in 2020 concerning claims of spending ₦1.1 billion in just one week but was ultimately cleared of any charges, may not enjoy the same outcome this time. Officials believe that his chances of evading prosecution have significantly decreased.
“This will mark the end of his political impunity,” the source emphasized, highlighting the agency’s determination to seek justice.
Furthermore, Obasa seems to have lost the backing of significant political allies, including President Bola Tinubu. Sources close to Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila indicated that Obasa’s attempts to engage with the Presidency have been disregarded, suggesting a deliberate distancing.
“He is now politically isolated,” a source remarked. “The influential network that once protected him is no longer operational.”
With his impeachment confirmed and an EFCC investigation on the horizon, Obasa’s political future remains in jeopardy. Uncertainties persist regarding whether he will return to Nigeria to serve as a regular member of the House of Assembly or attempt to evade justice altogether.
The EFCC, however, has assured that plans to apprehend Obasa are firmly established. “There is no political interference in this case,” an EFCC insider affirmed. “He will be required to respond to our investigators.”
